about
On October 15, 2015, my grandfather, Robert Luery, went missing from his sailboat during an abrupt storm on Lake Simcoe in Canada. He was never found. My sister wrote this song for him.
lyrics
You always told me life was short;
I should never take advantage.
Now I'm standing on the shore,
Trying to forget this.
I knew that it could happen; I just didn't think so soon,
And I know that you're not there but I can't stop texting you.
I need to live on—it's what you'd have me do—
But it's so hard to continue without you.
Oh, but I'll try, living every day of my life,
Never asking why I had to say goodbye.
Oh and this pain, nobody here is to blame;
I just know you're in a better place
And I'll never forget your face.
All the memories we shared—that kind of happiness is rare;
I always loved how much you cared, listening from your chair.
You never think you can lose someone until they're gone.
I'll cast my last goodbye in a bottle and give the sea my song
My whole life long.
Oh, but I'll try, living every day of my life,
Never asking why I had to say goodbye.
Oh and this pain, nobody here is to blame;
I just know you're in a better place
And I'll never forget your face,
Living every day of my life;
Why I had to say goodbye.
And this pain, nobody here is to blame;
I just know you're in a better place
And I'll never forget your face.
Last goodbye in a bottle; giving the sea my song
My whole life long.
