about

This piece has long lived in my mind as the basis for some lyrical song, but nothing ever quite fit. It tried several times to be a love song of sorts, bearing strong themes of reconciliation; a few other times it bore words of peace, the feeling that one is being gently rocked to sleep by ocean waves; but always, the overwhelming feeling of this song to me has been that of a journey. Sandwiched here between two songs about death, this song speaks of the journey not of a single soul toward a heavenly destination, but of the singular journey of the universe—that great flowing river into which we all are swept—toward its ultimate ocean telos of love and peace and justice.
